Wesley snipes loses appeal, likely headed to prison

Wesley Snipes has lost in federal appeals court and will likely have to serve a three-year prison sentence for tax evasion.

In 2008, Snipes was found guilty of not filing tax returns between 1999 and 2001, consequently owing the government a staggering $12-$14 million.

He was sentenced to 36 months in prison.

Snipes appealed the decision, claiming that his sentence was “unreasonable.” Attorneys for the star also argued that he was denied a hearing to determine whether his trial should have been conducted in New York rather than Florida (where it wound up).

Today the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta disagreed, backing judge William Terrell Hodges and his 2008 decision.

The appellate panel’s ruling means Snipes will almost surely serve his three years.
